History of Sacramento
Native Americans lived in Sacramento for several thousand years afore the first European settles came. In 1806, a Spanish explores found out and named the Sacramento River and the Sacramento valley. In 1839, John Sutter and other settlers made a trading colony. Gold was found out on Sutter’s property in the mid 1880s, and the population since then began to rise. In 1848, Sacramento was established and named after the main river of California which ran near it and the city charter was adopted in 1849.
Sacramento was formed into the city in 1849 and in 1850, it was acknowledged by the California State Legislature, thus becoming the oldest formed city in California. In 1854, Sacramento was appointed the capital of California and became the terminal for the foremost railroad. The city has experienced a great growth in population in 1990s and 2000s. Sacramento has been the center of river transportation. The economy of the city is diverse and the history of the city is rich!
